Most regions of the United States, apart from the Northeast, continue to experience new peaks in the number of cases. Due to this, many states, especially in the Northeast, have implemented 14-day quarantines for travelers.
In the last few weeks, the United States has become the epicenter of the pandemic. South America, and specifically Brazil, appear to be the hardest-hit countries at present, but the southern United States is clearly seeing new peaks in the disease.
A major concern this week is the resurgence in cases of COVID-19 in many states along the country’s southern tier. Very importantly, as the United States reopens its economy, it does not mean that the county is returning to where it was in March.
Two weeks ago, the CDC changed its messaging on the major causes of COVID-19 infections. The intent was not to change the assessment of the science but to clarify the importance of various methods of transmission.
Nearly all states in the country have entered a phased reopening this week. While most are continuing to show a downward trend in the number of cases, there are several, that have shown small to moderate increases.
